A porcelain tea bowl and saucer, both decorated in underglaze blue, coral red, green, aubergine and gilt, with a design of paper tanzaku (strips) hanging down and decorated with floral and landscape forms.

JAPANESE HIRADO WARE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN CROUCHING SHISHI

 

A blue and white porcelain model of a crouching shishi.  The animal with alert head, the mouth open exposing teeth.  The paws resting on a large openwork brocade ball which, with the bushy tail, mane,eyebrows and beard, is finished in underglaze blue.
